Care

To keep your Simswear looking and feeling its best, follow their comprehensive care guide

Don’t be scared — wash your knits with confidence!

Think of your knitwear like a loyal friend (or your favorite pair of leather shoes). Treat them right, and they’ll be with you year after year, looking and feeling amazing.

Here’s the lowdown on keeping your knits in tip-top shape:

Step 1 – Airing out

If there are no obvious blemishes, air your knit out overnight on a dry night to remove any unwanted odours. Wool and cashmere are naturally antimicrobial, and this is a surprisingly effective process.

Step 2 – Washing

Hand wash gently in cool water with a wool-safe detergent. We always recommend hand washing over machine washing.

However, if you want to machine wash, turn your knit inside out and place it in a laundry bag to reduce friction. Use a wool detergent and a gentle or wool cycle with low temperature (20℃) and low spin (400 rpm).

Simswear cannot take responsibility for any laundry mishaps.

Step 3 – Drying

Roll your knit in a towel to soak up excess water. Then reshape it while it’s damp and let it dry flat.

Whatever you do, avoid wringing or hanging your knits when wet — they hate it and will lose their shape.

Step 4 – De-pilling and storing

De-pill with a fabric shaver to smooth away those fuzzy bits. These are just loose fibres in the yarn from the knitting process, so once they’re out the way, pilling slows right down.

When storing, fold, don’t hang. This prevents your knit from stretching out and losing shape.

People

Simswear’s yarn and knitting partners are based in the UK allowing them to visit and observe working conditions directly.

Todd & Duncan, is an expert and relatively large yarn supplier, based on the shores of the Loch of Lomund, in Southern Scotland. As the mill is GOTS certified, HR are required to meet with employee representatives on a monthly basis to discuss working conditions.

Harley of Scotland, is a smaller, third-generation family run knitwear factory. They pride themselves on providing a supportive and nurturing environment for staff. For example, in 2024 two of their knitwear programmers were supported to travel to Germany to receive training in the latest knitwear software. Billy and Rory always enjoy their visits to Harley’s and the opportunity to see their knits being made.

Planet

By focusing on knitwear, Simswear has been able to assemble the knowledge and partners to make well constructed knits. They identify three pillars as core to their approach; excellent raw fibres, a knowledgeable yarn spinner and a dedicated knitter.

The Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) aims to improve the welfare of sheep and the land they graze on. It’s a voluntary standard that requires all sites, from wool farms to the seller in the final business-to-business transaction, to be certified. RWS farmers and ranchers are evaluated against animal welfare, land management, and social requirements set in the standard.

Todd & Duncan use environmentally friendly dyes. This allows the water used in dying to be expertly cleaned and returned safely to the loch.

Areas for development

Simswear would like to use more British wool. The challenge is that it is not as soft as the Australian merino that many customers are used to.
