Brothers notes: There's nowhere that tastes of freedom quite as much as the mountains. Let this sweatshirt transport you to a sunny spot high up in the Italian Alps. The text reads 'Freedom in the Mountains' in Italian.

Idioma, derives its name from the Spanish for language. Phrases from around the world focusing on freedom, exploration and nature adorn Idioma’s collection and are accompanied by playful illustrations.

areas for development

As the sourcing agent do not own the factories and the factories also produce for other clients they do not have the power to determine worker pay. However the sourcing agency practices ‘open book’ accounting with suppliers to ensure that it pays enough for all workers to receive a living wage and educates factory management about the benefits of doing so (higher staff retention, less absenteeism, fewer quality issues, higher worker satisfaction, enhanced productivity).

Cut & sew: Dhaka, Bangladesh (audited by Fair Wear Foundation and GOTS Global Organic Textile Standard)

Screen printing: Doves Clothing, Suffolk, UK. (EU regulations)

worker conditions

Idioma have partnered with a sourcing agent who help emerging designers source sustainably and ethically. This agent visit factories daily during production to monitor working conditions and ensure nothing is subcontracted out to un-regulated factories. Each of the factories is also independently audited by the Fair Wear Foundation and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).

Idioma visit Doves Clothing who print their garments regularly during production and enjoy a close working relationship with them.

environmental impact

Organic virgin cotton protects the environment and health of farmers from the damaging intensive fertilisers and pesticides conventionally used. The 15% polyester used makes for a more durable sweatshirt. Recycled Polyester reduces the use of fossil fuels and waste plastic in landfill or oceans.

Idioma’s sourcing partner encourage factories to employ strict waste control and use energy efficient machines.

This sweatshirt was screen printed with water based inks. Most commercial screen printers use plastisol inks which may contain PVC and phthalates that can be harmful to the environment.
