People

Knowledge Cotton Apparel have worked in India for many years and developed long term partnerships with trusted suppliers.

Their garments are GOTS certified which contains a robust social element that all manufacturers and processors throughout a products supply chain must meet.

Planet

EcoVero™ is a fabric made from renewable wood sources using a process that is held to high environmental standards. CO2 emissions are reported to be 50% lower compared to generic viscose and calculated using the Higg Materials Sustainability Index. (LENZING) The fabric is made by LENZING™, a leading innovator in sustainable fabric manufacturing.

Flax (from which linen fibres are derived) is resilient and can grow in poor soil, using far less water in its cultivation than cotton. According to the European Confederation of Linen and Hemp, "Across its lifecycle, a linen shirt uses 6.4 litres of water" compared to 2,700 litres for a cotton shirt. (Good On You) Flax production also replenishes the soil with vital nutrients that are depleted by other crops.

Suppliers

EcoVero™: Lenzing, Austria (EU Ecolabel)

Areas for development

Becoming a Fair Wear Foundation member goes beyond auditing and gives brands an external framework to engage with social concerns on an even deeper level. That said, KnowlegeCotton Apparel's GOTS certification is a robust social standard that covers the entire supply chain.
