DESCRIPTION

Robust Norwegian sock from organic wool & organic cotton in a dimensionally stable rib structure. With a very small amount of wrap-spun elastane (no physical contact) this sock adapts to each movement and stays in place. The Mouliné knitting gives this item a trendy look.

People

Living Crafts has a genuine commitment to social standards at it production sites. In 2016 it joined the Fair Wear Foundation who support members to take step-by-step improvements that lead to real and sustainable solutions.

These socks are made in Turkey. The supplier has a BSCI social audit which alongside in person visits allows Living Crafts to develop an understanding of the social performance of the supplier.

FWF’s 2018 report states that at one of Living Crafts suppliers in Turkey there were issues reported regarding payment of overtime premium and awareness of workers on wage calculation. Living Craft has been in discussion with the factory but the relatively small orders they are placing make it hard for them to exert influence.

Planet

Organic farming methods are gentler on the environment and also farmers who may suffer ill health when coming into contact with the intensive fertilisers and pesticides used in conventional cotton production.

Elastane and polyamide content gives socks a degree of stretch and durability. Whilst the production of these materials has significant environmental impacts we accept their use in products where it is necessary for the function of the product.

Areas for development

We expect Living Crafts to continue to carefully monitor working conditions at their Turkish suppliers. If it is not possible to make progress on issues raised a responsible exit strategy and process should be implemented.
