Printing: I Dress Myself, Somerset, UK
This Somerset-based business specialises in eco-friendly screen printing. Founded in 2006, it sees screen printing as a heritage craft, and uses only the Permaset range of water-based inks. I Dress Myself comprises a small, close-knit team that designs its own products and prints for other businesses. It offers technical support to printers around the world, and provides a first-class, eco-friendly service.
Earth Positive are a member of the Fair Wear Foundation which means their supply chain is carefully examined for labour issues and the findings made public here.
Our screenprinters I Dress Myself are a small closely knit team and we have been able to chat with all members.
Organic cotton (Global Organic Textile Standard-certified) planted and harvested by hand in a region where cotton farming is predominantly rain-fed. (Cotton’s biggest environmental impact worldwide is water use. Rain-fed cotton reduces the impact on waterways).
Renewable energy powers the factory where our t-shirts are cut and sewn. (a combination of 30 massive wind turbines and solar panels on the roof of the factory).
Environmentally friendly inks are used to print our t-shirts. We use Permaset Aqua inks – the most environmentally friendly inks on the market, passing the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class 1 test (an independent testing and certification system for textile products) with 60% to spare!
AREAS FOR DEVELOPMENT
All workers at the Earth Positive factory receive at least the legal minimum wage, however this is not considered a living wage by many. We would like to see our supplier Earth Positive continue their work exploring the complex topic of achieving a real living wage for garment workers.
