People
Using heritage materials and supporting local trade, this hat is made from 100% British wool, farmed in the Pennines in Northern England.
Silverstick beanies are produced in a small family run factory just outside Nottingham, UK that employs 12 people and pays the living wage or above. The factory specialises in producing premium knitwear from natural fibres, including merino wool, British wool, organic cotton and Alpaca wool. Silverstick visit the factory on a regular basis and are really pleased with quality and working conditions.
This beanie is Õko-Tex Standard 100 certified, meaning it was made without the use of harmful chemicals, instead using azo and chlorine free textile dye.
Planet
Wool as a fabric is incredibly robust and long lasting. It is renewable and fully circular, being both biodegradable and easy to recycle. In comparison to synthetic fabrics, it requires less energy during production and less frequent washing during use.
Silverstick beanies are dyed with non azo dyes. Azos are a class of compounds used in textile dyes, some of which have been found to be harmful. Existing European legislation bans the use of these unhealthy azo dyes and all Silverstick clothing is certified azo and chlorine free, in accordance with Õko-Tex Standard 100 and ISO 17050-1.
Areas for development
Silverstick would like to see the factories they work with increase the % of renewable energy they use.
